Have you ever done a professional photoshoot before? Vanessa and Calvin hadn’t either, but they wanted to commemorate their engagement with timeless, joyful photos. Rikki from Joy Shots Photography helped them get comfortable and captured their outdoor engagement shoot in Loudoun, VA.
Choosing an Outdoor Session Location
Since Calvin and Vanessa are planning an indoor wedding, they wanted a special outdoor location for their engagement photos. Fields of Flowers in Loudoun, Virginia was the perfect spot.
They shared that, “Our main goal was to incorporate sunflowers and outside views . . . we wanted to use this opportunity to get a little sun and greenery in.” The sunflowers, white snowballs, and mountain views played along and Vanessa’s sunhat was the perfect prop.
Calming Pre-Photo Jitters
While the beautiful location certainly helped calm Vanessa and Calvin’s nerves, they were still unsure how they’d feel in front of a camera. Like many couples, they’d never had a professional photoshoot before.
Thankfully, Rikki’s a pro at calming pre-photo jitters! They share that, “It was so reassuring having [Rikki’s] gentle and clear guidance. It enabled us to pose more naturally without feeling too stiff or self-conscious.”
Reflecting on the Session
As the jitters faded away, Calvin and Vanessa had a lot of fun frolicking in the sunflowers and sipping on beer. They explained specifically that, “We really enjoyed all of [Rikki’s] prompts and were so happy to have a lot of genuine laughs during the shoot.”
When asked for advice for other people, Vanessa suggests that, “If it’s your thing, I would highly recommend getting your hair and/or makeup professionally done. I felt so much more confident in front of the camera and could just focus on having a good time!”
Don’t like professional hair and makeup? That’s okay! Rikki’s worked with people who prefer going natural and the photos are still fun and classic.
