Living abroad is an amazing experience. However, some couples worry that they’ll miss out on milestones, like doing engagement photos with the same photographer who’s doing their wedding back “home.”
With traveling photographer Erika Fletcher of Joy Shots Photography, milestone photos can happen near or far. Nick and KC learned that firsthand when they joined her for destination engagement photos.
Destination Engagement Photos in Odawara, Japan
KC and Nick are currently living in Japan and planned to have Erika capture their U.S. wedding. Erika’s a travelling photographer, though, and invited them for destination engagement photos while she was in Odawara, Japan.
Odawara’s a small city, so KC and Nick easily chose photoshoot locations. KC shares, “The castle was the main attraction in the city, and some of the plum blossoms were starting to bloom, so we really wanted to get those in there. That was also why we went to the plum blossom grove on the edge of the city, but those weren’t quite ready yet. We were also hoping to get Mt. Fuji in the background, which did end up happening, even if it was only the bottom.”
A Serious or Silly Session?
Professional photo sessions are exciting, but also nerve wracking. Many couples feel unsure in front of the camera and KC and Nick were no different.
Nick shares, “We realized we didn’t know how to pose for pictures! We weren’t sure what the right level of serious and silly was either, but Erika had good tips for helping us work through that.”
